Species-
Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)
This tree was taken down after storm damage in Gallia county Ohio. The trunk was unusually wide and straight, producing boards in sizes and clarity almost never seen in this species.
Design notes-
Taking cues from the iconic Tori gates of Japanese shrines and temples, this bench is comprised of graceful angles and subtle swells and bevels that pictures can not do justice. At home indoors or outdoors or even in a walk in shower, Eastern Cedar is a handsome wood that is nearly unparalleled in its insect and rot resistance.
Dimensions-
Length- 35.5”
Depth- 9.5”
Height- 15.5”
Species-
White Oak (Quercus alba)
Harvested and milled in Gallia county Ohio.
White Oak has been a favored furniture wood for thousands of years. Incredibly strong, with a refined color and grain pattern, it lends itself perfectly to stately and classic designs.
Design notes-
This coffee table features trestle style construction with a live edge top and Nakashima inspired feet. White Oak live edge pieces are uncommon due to its nature to warp and twist so much during kiln drying. The trick is to air dry the wood, which takes many years and is not cost effective for commercial wood suppliers.
Dimensions
Length- 50”
Width- ~20”
Height- 17”
Species-
Blue Gum Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) Top is highly figured blue gum, very uncommon, extremely dense and durable. Harvested and milled in Santa Cruz County California
Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla)
The legs are true Honduran Mahogany, increasingly rare these days. Gorgeous color, clear grain, highest grade. Wood was reclaimed from a sailboat made in the 1930’s
Design Notes-

This stool was designed to have an extreme height range. Though made to be an ideal drafting and work stool, it would look sharp in a modern kitchen or bar.

Species-
Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) This tree came down in a winter storm of 2022 in Santa Cruz county CA. Milled in Santa Cruz county CA.
Design Notes-
A simple and elegant stool modeled after a bathing stool seen at an onsen in Yugawara Japan.
Species-
Japanese Pagoda Tree (Sophora japonica)
Saved from being turned into woodchips, this piece comes from a historic tree in Japantown San Jose, CA. A true one of a kind piece, it took 12 years of careful drying to keep it from splitting apart.
Design notes-
Only as much design as was needed to make it functional, was imposed on this piece. This monolithic method really allows the wood itself to become the focal point. It’s satin sides with mirror like top gives great contrast, and pushes the eye to examine the history captured in the growth rings.
Dimensions
Diameter- ~19”
Height- 13”
Species-
Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) This tree came down in Santa Cruz county in a winter storm of 2021. Milled in Santa Cruz county CA.
Design Notes-
Another experiment in monolithic design. Simple and robust, this stool sees daily use in the shop. It features a burned, burnished and oiled surface treatment.
